Slovak University of Agriculture: General Introduction

Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) has attained the position of one of Slovakia’s leading universities in the period since it was founded in 1952. The University is consistently rated in the top group for the high quality of its teaching and research in the Slovak Republic. The University cultivates close and productive links with its local and regional community and will continue to expand its work at an international level in both teaching and scientific research. It has also a strong tradition of working in collaboration with business and industry and playing an active role in economic regeneration.

SUA provides education in the field of agriculture and related research areas such as: agrobiology, food resources, sustainable agriculture, agricultural production, biotechnology, food technology, engineering of agricultural machinery and equipment, computerization and automation of agricultural equipment, operation of energy facilities on agricultural production, gardening and landscape design, economics and management, international trade in agricultural commodities, marketing, development of rural tourism, project management for rural development, lifelong learning, etc...

The University consists of six faculties: Faculty of Agrobiology and Food resources, Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Management, Faculty of European Studies and Regional, Development, Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering and Faculty of Engineering. At its faculties it currently offers 41 bachelor, 28 master and 21 doctoral study programmes. In addition, SUA provides a quality foreign language training, access to information and communication technologies, vocational subjects taught in foreign languages and the opportunity to complete a part of study at prestigious universities abroad. Number of students enrolled at all degrees of study is approximately 9,000 (academic year 2013/2014).

One of the main priorities of the University is its active development of international cooperation and integration into recognized international associations. Currently SUA is a member of VUA (Visegrad University Association), EUA (European University Association), ICA and CASEE (Association for European Life Science Universities),  DRC (Danube Rector´s Conference),  ASECU (Association of Economic Universities of South and Eastern Europe and the Black Sea Region ), IAU (International Association of Universities), GHERA (Global Consortium for Higher Education in Agriculture). SUA was included into the higher education institutions of university type and it was awarded the prestigious ECTS Label by the European Commission.
