Modern Local Governance in Practice: Students Experience Leadership and Citizen Engagement
23.03.2026
How can future leaders truly understand modern governance? Our students found out firsthand during an interactive workshop led by Vladyslava Balera from the City Hall of Nitra.
Bringing together international and Slovak students, the session offered a hands-on experience with the Peer Consultation method, using real-life challenges from the city of Nitra. Students worked on topics such as youth participation, public space design, and community-driven events—developing practical solutions to real-world issues.
Through this experience, students strengthened key skills in leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. They learned how to engage citizens—especially young people—in decision-making processes, how to lead open and effective communication, and how to co-create impactful public initiatives.
By combining theory with real municipal practice, the workshop provided valuable insights and concrete tools that prepare our students to become proactive, socially responsible professionals ready to shape the future of their communities.
