29.09.2025
From 22 to 26 September 2025, the Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra hosted an international summer school on Food Production and Environmental Impact on Agricultural Land.
The event was organised within the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships project EU partnership to protect agricultural land in the face of climate and environmental challenges – Caring for future generations (ProLand), project no. 2024-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000252809.
Under the guidance of local coordinator Prof. JUDr. Lucia Palšová, PhD., 19 students from five universities spent an intensive week studying legal aspects of soil protection and the impact of environmental issues on food production.
Teaching was provided by lecturers from SUA in Nitra together with ten guest professors from partner universities:
- Poznan University of Life Sciences (Poland)
- Roma Tre University (Italy)
- University of Almería (Spain)
- Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine)
The programme was delivered in a hybrid format, as students from the Ukrainian university joined online, including the practical sessions.
In addition to the academic programme, international students and lecturers took part in an excursion to Víno PD Mojmírovce, where they discussed current challenges in Slovak agriculture and viticulture. They also explored the rich history of Nitra during a guided tour of the castle complex.
The final day was dedicated to the presentation of practical projects, prepared by students working in international mixed teams.
Both students and lecturers highly appreciated the academic quality and overall programme of the summer school. Besides gaining new theoretical knowledge, participants acquired valuable experience of working in an international environment, established new contacts, and improved their language skills.
Students described this pilot summer school as highly beneficial and excellently organised, both professionally and logistically. The ProLand project will continue next year with additional summer schools hosted by the other partner universities.
